TOP 10 MOST DEMANDED JOBS IN THE OIL & GAS INDUSTRY

TOP 10 MOST DEMANDED JOBS IN THE OIL & GAS INDUSTRY

This is meant for those who desire a career in the oil and gas industry, especially for graduates and undergraduates who may want to be informed.

It's ironical that despite the high graduate unemployment rate and imminent glut in oil supply due increase production worldwide, there is actually a shortage of skilled and specialized labour in the global oil and gas industry. Unfortunately, the most in-demand occupations require specific skills that can only be acquired through experience.

As an oil and gas professional, I have followed the trend and revolution in the industry globally over the past few years. I also follow technological breakthroughs (especially the fracking technology in the US that is redefining the dynamics of the industry worldwide), oil discoveries and hiring patterns all over the world. Based on these trends and statistics, I have come up with a compilation of the top 10 in-demand occupations in the oil and gas industry. This is not limited to the to the industry in Nigeria. This is based on global demand.
I can guarantee that you will always get a quality job (somewhere around the world) if you have at least 5 years experience in the fields. If after gaining five years experience in any of the top 10 fields mentioned below, you lack a well-paying job for more than 6 months, you better go and see your pastor or imam for deliverance. Maybe na from village.

So, for your graduates desiring a lasting career in the oil and gas industry, you may consider these specialized fields. Just work on getting basic experience and you will become indispensable:

1) Geoscientists

2) drilling engineers/ drilling supervisors/driller

No (1) & (2) With recent oil and gas discoveries all around the world including Africa (East Africa and the Gulf of Guinea) and the aggressive exploration for oil all over the world, there is a very high demand for geoscientists (geologists and geophysicists).

Geoscientists are involved in the exploration for oil and also in the initial stages after oil discovery. Drilling engineers/ drilling supervisors /drillers are involved in drilling operations (both for exploration and production). There is an shortage of experienced drilling engineers worldwide. A colleague of mine who is drilling engineer told me that he has already received two good offers via linkedIn (even without applying!). And he barely has 3 years experience!

INSTRUMENTATION, CONTROL AND AUTOMATION ENGINEERING TRAINING

INSTRUMENTATION, CONTROL AND AUTOMATION ENGINEERING TRAINING

ABOUT THE COURSE

This course provides an overview of process Control systems, Instrumentation, and Automation from Front End Engineering Design (FEED), Detailed Engineering Design (DED), Procurement, Construction and Operation of Oil, Gas & Petrochemical Handling Facilities. The focus is on the application and integration into the process and control of upstream, midstream and down Stream oil, gas and petrochemical facilities. The experience from this training will be applicable to field production facilities, pipelines, gas plants, onshore and offshore systems.

Instrumentation, Control and Automation Outline

• Defining Key Oil & Gas Parameters to measure and how to measure these Parameters.

• Identifying equipment and instrument characteristics and using appropriate instrumentation and controls. Starting from the basis, with P&ID.

• Control and Instrumentation Measurement Techniques.
• Various types of sensor measuring techniques and application requirements.

• Control modes and their applications, communications requirements

• Interface Protocols and requirements, Modbus IP/TCP, OPC, Profibus and serial connections using RS-432, RS-422 and RS-485.

• Field (facility) control and monitoring systems such as pressure, temperature, flow and level indicators and controllers.

• Field (facility) safety monitoring and response systems including SIS, HIPPS and emergency shutdown valves.

• System-wide considerations including communications, local control, RTU, SCADA and Telemetry Systems.

Available Courses..... Who should attend?

COURSES AVAILABLE AT TIMMSVILLE ENGINEERING.

1. Auto CAD 2D & 3D
Auto Cad or commonly known as computer aided design is a software application for 2D and 3D designs.

The Auto CAD or computer aided design machine has been a great help to engineers and also for several architectures that are finding it impossible to deal with drawings and plans of the project engineering work and the bring on the verge of perfection. It is the basic software all engineers as well as architects are expected to know.

2. Bentley AutoPlant

Bentley AutoPLANT V8is the mature, industry-proven,

AutoCAD market leading, 2D and 3D plant design suite helping to cost effectively manage all plant size projects through an integrated environment that supports design, management, and review from all stakeholders — saving money, improving project speed, and providing safer infrastructure.

What a Pipe Stress Engineer needs to Know.....

The term “Pipe Stress Engineer” as used in this document refers to that person responsible for insuring that the pipe routing done by the piping layout designer is consistent with the allowables in the applicable piping Code. This includes; the thermal forces and the live and dead loads the piping system imposes on equipment, equipment nozzles and structures. The Pipe Stress Engineer is also responsible for the selecting and specifying stress related products including various types of Expansion Joints, Constant Support Spring Hangers and Snubbers or Struts.

Pipe Stress Engineer

What does the Pipe Stress Engineer need to know?

Pipe Stress Engineering is more than just knowing how to turn on the Analysis software in the computer, how to find the menus and the difference between pass and fail. So, appropriately, what else does the Pipe Stress Engineer need to know about piping?
Here is a list of the most basic of things that a good Pipe Stress Engineer should know. Thinking about every one of these items should become as natural as breathing for a good Pipe Stress Engineer.
  • Piping Codes – All Pipe Stress Engineers need to know about the applicable Piping Codes for the different types of Process Plants and have access to the most up-to-date copy so the proper data is used and proper decisions can be made for the calculations and the good of the project.
  • Pipe, Fittings, Flanges and Valves – All Pipe Stress Engineers need to know and understand the broad spectrum of items that make up the “vocabulary” of the piping language. This includes the many types of fittings, the many different schedules, the wide variety of common piping materials, the flange class ratings and the types of the different valve designs.
