ABOUT THE COURSE



This course provides an overview of process Control systems, Instrumentation, and Automation from Front End Engineering Design (FEED), Detailed Engineering Design (DED), Procurement, Construction and Operation of Oil, Gas & Petrochemical Handling Facilities. The focus is on the application and integration into the process and control of upstream, midstream and down Stream oil, gas and petrochemical facilities. The experience from this training will be applicable to field production facilities, pipelines, gas plants, onshore and offshore systems.


Instrumentation, Control and Automation Outline

• Defining Key Oil & Gas Parameters to measure and how to measure these Parameters.

• Identifying equipment and instrument characteristics and using appropriate instrumentation and controls. Starting from the basis, with P&ID.

• Control and Instrumentation Measurement Techniques.
• Various types of sensor measuring techniques and application requirements.

• Control modes and their applications, communications requirements

• Interface Protocols and requirements, Modbus IP/TCP, OPC, Profibus and serial connections using RS-432, RS-422 and RS-485.

• Field (facility) control and monitoring systems such as pressure, temperature, flow and level indicators and controllers.

• Field (facility) safety monitoring and response systems including SIS, HIPPS and emergency shutdown valves.



• System-wide considerations including communications, local control, RTU, SCADA and Telemetry Systems.

• Data management and use-HMI, Historians and Sequence Event Recorders



• Understanding Conceptual Engineering, Front End Engineering Design, Detailed Engineering Design and Process Instrumentation deliverable sessions for optimal design




• Oil & Gas Regulations, International Codes & Standards, Specifications, Recommended Practices, Publications, Bulletins & Technical Reports.

• Introduction to instrument components and piping related components

• Valve types and function (manual and controlled)

• Identifying general process and safety device Symbols

• Understanding ICA (Instrumentation /Controls and automation) interface with Process engineering and Mechanical Piping to Understanding P & ID using the Legend Sheet.

• Loop Diagrams
• Instrument Junction Box Wiring Diagrams for PAS, SIS & FGS.
• Hook-Up Diagrams
• System Cabinets wiring Diagrams
• System Architectural Layout Diagrams.
• Introduction to Fire & Gas Monitoring systems.
• Instrument Power Distribution Diagrams
• Smart Plant Instrumentation (INTOOLS) Concepts

PLC & DCS

• Understanding the actual meaning of PLC and DCS
• Importance of PLC and DCS  in IC&A design works for oil & gas sector
• Logics as regards to designs for control panels and other related automated cubicles
Help out in the programming of PLCs and know whatever information required by the manufacturers
• Understand various programming languages of the PLC in line with IEC- 61131-3
• Knowing what input and output devices and other PLC/PAC Equipment
• Knowing how the PLC communication concept, e.g the Ethernet, master slave networks, RTU/DCS/HMI interfaces, Drivers, etc.
• Understanding Human-machine interface functions
